COMMUNITY PATROL LEADS TO REMOVAL OF ANOTHER ILLEGAL FIREARM

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 20, 2016 (RSCNPF):  An afternoon community patrol by officers of the Nevis Division in the Cotton Ground area has resulted in the discovery and seizure of another illegal firearm and rounds of ammunition.

The community patrol was conducted on Friday afternoon (August 19) in efforts to foster a stronger relationship between residents of the area and the Police.

During the patrol, a group of young persons of interest were engaged in the vicinity of a village bar.  A subsequent search of the area surrounding the bar uncovered a Smith and Wesson pistol with 5 rounds of ammunition.

No one has been held accountable for the find.

This seizure brings to 21, the number of illegal firearms seized by the Police so far in 2016.

A total of 21 illegal firearms were seized in 2015.
