DISCUSSIONS FOR PROSPERITY TOWN HALL MEETINGS COMMUNICATE THE PEOPLE’S PROSPERITY AGENDA

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) the Honourable Shawn Richards has said that the “Discussions for Prosperity” town hall meetings being held across the country by the Team Unity Administration are designed to communicate with the people the prosperity agenda of the Government. He noted also that the meetings provide an avenue for people to share their views and ideas with the Government.

“When we say discussion for prosperity, it’s about what we have done thus far and what we will be doing to bring prosperity to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,”  the deputy prime minister said on a recent edition of “Working For You.” “We are a Government, which is accountable, so these meetings provide us with an opportunity to give an account to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. They also provide an opportunity for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to question us on what we have been doing; to give their own input and to give their own ideas as to what the Government should be doing. So, it’s a partnership and in any partnership there must be communication,” DPM Richards added.

Meanwhile, the deputy prime minister pointed out that the Team Unity Administration would have accomplished some 47 pre-election promises already after being in office for just over a year. He reckons that going by this trend, the Administration would have covered a significant portion of the remaining promises in two and a half years and may exceed expectations within the five year term.

“We came to the people prior to the last general election and we outlined our prosperity agenda. Just this week, I saw a news item indicating that Team Unity has been able to implement some 47 of the promises made to date. We made maybe about 200 promises; we’re just about a year and half off so I think we are well on our way,” Deputy Prime Minister Richards said.

The “Discussions for Prosperity” town hall meetings are held in several communities at community centres across the country. There, members of the Team Unity Administration led by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris make presentations on what the Government would have accomplished thus far, while entertaining questions and comments from the audience. The turnout to all the meeting held thus far has been tremendous and the response to the meetings has been exceedingly positive.
