Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 15, 2016 (SKNIS)–Formosa TV (FTV) from the Republic of China (Taiwan) will soon feature Saint Kitts and Nevis as a tourist destination to its viewers, following a visit to the Federation by two reporters, who are expected to arrive on September 15, 2016.

The reporters will be filming at locations such as Brimstone Hill National Park, Alexander Hamilton’s birthplace, the Botanical Gardens in Nevis and the Saint Kitts Eco-Park, among others. The itinerary also includes visiting local restaurants to sample indigenous foods and interview local restaurateurs and tour guides on both islands. Part of the programme will also depict the lives of Taiwanese living and working in Saint Kitts and Nevis and will feature various activities that can be enjoyed by tourists visiting the twin-island nation.

The presentation will also highlight parts of the independence celebrations, including the opening of the new National Hero’s Park. Interviews with the Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, as well as other government officials, will also form part of the programme.

In commenting on the visit, Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan) H.E. Jasmine Huggins said that in order to promote Saint Kitts and Nevis as an alternative tourist destination, FTV was invited to produce a programme, showcasing Saint Kitts and Nevis. According to Ambassador Huggins, “we wanted to expose the beauty of Saint Kitts and Nevis to audiences in Taiwan and to capture those tourists who may be thinking of going farther afield to new and exciting holiday destinations.” The Ambassador also stated that the initiative complemented earlier efforts by the Embassy to promote the Federation in new markets. “We had in the past promoted Saint Kitts and Nevis at the Taipei International Travel Fair and decided to do something different this year. Instead of looking at brochures and hearing from us at the booth, viewing audiences of this programme will be able to see for themselves the stunning beauty of our twin island paradise and hopefully will be inspired to visit.” Ambassador Huggins further explained that the project was greatly aided by the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministries of Tourism in both Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the Federation. A special thanks is also extended to local taxi operator Mr. Leonard Stapleton for organizing the programme for the visiting journalists, as well as providing tour-guide services and transportation for them.

Formosa TV has four channels and a cable news channel that provide news 24 hours a day. The stations have also won many awards at Taiwan news awards competitions, including the Excellent Journalism Awards, Social Positive News Reporting Awards and the Consumer Protection News Reporting Awards.
