Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 05, 2016 (SKNIS): For the second time, St. Kitts will host the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Ceremony for the Presentation of Graduates, which will take place on October 8, 2016. The first was in 2012.

Appearing on the radio-television programme “Working for You,” today, Mrs. Karen Forde Warner, Campus Registrar, stated that the ceremony is unique to the UWI in that the ceremony will not be held on campus, which is the case in Mona in Jamaica, St. Augustine in Trinidad and Cavehill in Barbados.

“In the Open Campus, we spread across 17 countries and we do move around,” said Mrs. Warner. “So, the first thing is that our graduation is staged in different locations. We rotate in various countries in the Eastern Caribbean to ensure our mandate of reaching and providing access to underserved communities.”
The Programme Officer said that the graduation is very much a typical UWI graduation with all the pomp and circumstance and significance of any graduation ceremony. “We try to make it as elegant and memorable as possible,” she said.

Mrs. Warner said a number of persons from the university community will be in attendance in St. Kitts.

“We have the university Executive Management let by of course our chancellor Sir George Alleyne, Vice Chancellor Hilary Beckles, principals from the other campuses, our Pro Vice Chancellors and senior members of the university and registrars, will all be taking part in the ceremony,” she said.

Graduands will hail from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Turks and Cacos and Trinidad and Tobago. Fifteen students from St. Kitts and Nevis will be graduating.

This will be the 8th Presentation of Graduates Ceremony of The UWI Open Campus and will be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel.

Overall 698 students (593 undergraduates and 105 postgraduates) are set to graduate this coming Saturday at 10 a.m.
