The event has been absent from the “force’s” calendar for several years. Upon assuming command of the Police Force, Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley signaled his intention to have the Police Week back on the calendar and challenged the Sports Club to ensure that it happens before the end of the year. He also said, “the reintroduction of “Police Week” by the sports club is a clear indicator that our officers are embracing the changes taking place in the Police Service.” He added, “The Sports Club Executive organized and will manage the events, and it is a good feeling to know that the “Police Week” is back after almost fifteen (15) years. I commend the team for their efforts, and I encourage all of our Officers, families and friends to take part in the activities.”

“Police Week” kicks off on Saturday, (October 29) with a Health Walk from the Police Training Complex at 5.30am and then later that night with a televised address by the Prime Minister and Minister of National Security to officially declare the week of activities open. Sunday, Officer’s will attend worship services throughout both islands; a road relay from Challengers to Police Headquarters will also be held on Sunday.

Highlights of the week of activity includes; a grand Police Parade through Basseterre slated for 9.00am on Monday (October 31), officers visits to schools on Tuesday (November 01), an Award Ceremony recognizing officers for “Long Service and Good Conduct” on Thursday (November 02) and a Job Fair in Central Street on Friday (November 4) from 10am to 4pm.

Other events include, visits to the elderly in the communities served by our stations, a Domino Competition, a Talent Extravaganza and karaoke, a Sports Day and Social Evening.

Chairperson of the Police Sports Club, Corporal Jerry Watt said, “we are happy to bring back this event, it provides a chance for us to fellowship over sports, and through the other events and it’s a way for us to get out and meet our communities. I want the public to embrace this effort and join with us.” He added, it is my hope that we can begin to grow Police Week to its former glory. I’ve heard the stories, of the Calypso Shows, the sporting events and the likes. We will get there.”
