25 MOST REMARKABLE TEENS AWARD CEREMONY SET FOR THURSDAY

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 07, 2016 (SKNIS): The Federal Parliament of St. Kitts and Nevis meets on Thursday, November 10, 2016, to recognize the outstanding achievements of 25 young people in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The Special Sitting of the National Assembly is organized for Members of Parliament to present awards to the 25 Most Remarkable Teens in St. Kitts and Nevis as part of activities for November’s commemoration of Youth Month.

The annual recognition programme started in 2011 and considers non-traditional categories such as citizenship, spiritual commitment, performing arts, writing, courage to overcome and most enterprising. Senior Youth Officer in the Department of Youth Empowerment, Sahira David, said this year’s event is marked by a milestone.

“Fifteen of our 25 teens come from St. Kitts, while 10 are from Nevis,” she said. “This is the first time we have had so many from our sister island.”

She credited this to the increased engagement between the respective government agencies responsible for youth affairs in Nevis and in St. Kitts as well as the mobilization effort mounted there. Ms. David added that there is “a dynamic mix of young people who will be presented awards in various categories such as culinary arts, environmental science, youth development, music and more. An

This year’s event will start at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on national television ZIZ Channel 5.
