“BE THE EXAMPLE EVERY DAY” ACP JAMES TELLS FUTURE LEADERS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 07, 2016 (RSCNPF) Twenty-six (26) law enforcement officers from across the Regional Security System (RSS) member states are currently attending the six week “Section Leaders Course 2016” here in St. Kitts and Nevis.
The course began on Monday (November 07) and will end on 16 December, 2016. Participants are attending from the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda (RPFAB), the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), the Royal Grenada Police Force, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF).
During the six weeks the course will prepare junior Police and Defence for personnel to serve in and assume mid-level supervisory positions. Course topics are designed to enhance and improve the leadership qualities of junior leaders, to train the participants to conduct training and operations in an environmentally responsible matter, to equip junior leaders with the necessary training, planning and managements skills, to train and test junior leaders in methods of instructions and service writing. Additionally, the developing leaders will receive operational preparedness training on such topics as the receipt, preparation and issuing of orders, map reading and land navigation, military tactics, field craft and internal security.
Training will also be conducted to enhance the officers knowledge and practical awareness of Jungle Operations. Training in Human Rights Issues and Communication Skills will also be conducted.
Assistant Commissioner of Police and Head of the Operations Directorate, under which training falls, Mr. Terrance James welcomed the officers to St. Kitts and Nevis, and told them to embrace the course, he said, “at times it will be challenging, at times the information will be overwhelming, but it will help you when you are leading a patrol or an operation,” and added, “you are being prepared for a great responsibility. Embrace the tools given to you, employ them daily, and remember when you leave from here, be an example for your officers and soldiers to emulate, everyday.”
Remarks of challenge and encouragement were also given by the Regional Security System (RSS) Director of Training, Captain (Ret) Brian Roberts and the Commander of the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force, Lt.Col Patrick Wallace.
Funding for the course is being met by the RSS Headquarters through the International Narcotics Law Enforcement Affairs Section (US INL) of the US Embassy Bridgetown.
