Minister Phipps personally thanked the older ones, some of whom were centenarians, for the sacrifices that were made in their lives that now benefit the current generation.

One centenarian, Edward Bailey Solomon, noted that life was not easy but that he was thankful.

The centenarians who attended the first Centenarians Day Ceremony on May 31 this year, were also presented with a picture of themselves and the other older ones attending the event, as a memento. James Pemberton was given the Queen’s Award in commemoration of his 100th birthday, in the form of a card bearing the picture and seal of Her Excellency Queen Elizabeth II.

Deputy Prime Minister, Honourable Shawn Richards, took the opportunity to visit with one of the older persons in his district when her award was presented. A total of 12 older persons were visited yesterday, and 4 were visited today by Honourable Ian Patches Liburd accompanied by Deputy Director Wigley and her staff.
