BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 22, 2017 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, who is also the Minister of Finance, met with representatives of the St. Kitts and Nevis Bankers and Financial Services Association for talks on a wide range of issues.

The meeting, which took place at Government Headquarters on Tuesday (March 21), was attended by Country Manager of Scotiabank St. Kitts and Nevis, Dave Ramsumair and acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, Donald Thompson.

Among the topics discussed during Tuesday’s meeting were correspondent banking relationship, as well as progress in security and macroeconomic prospects which includes new growth areas.

Speaking with the Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ramsumair described the meeting as very cordial, open and frank. The Scotiabank manager further noted that the meeting was “useful” as it helps to chart the way forward for the financial sector.

Ramsumair said the bankers’ association maintains a strong relationship with the Prime Minister’s office and Tuesday’s meeting only served to strengthen that relationship.

Prime Minister Harris also extended congratulations to Scotiabank St. Kitts and Nevis for recording its best ever performance in St. Kitts and Nevis in 2016.

Earlier this year, that financial institution was named Bank of the Year 2016 in St. Kitts and Nevis by The Banker Magazine, which is a Financial Times publication.
