I am deeply saddened by the passing of our former Governor- General , His Excellency Sir Cuthbert Sebastian. He was to me, a friend and colleague ; to the Nation , he was a patriot and a committed servant of the people.

As a schoolboy, I first knew him from a distance as a dispenser in the pharmacy at the Cunningham Hospital. Many years later we served together in our respective specialties at the Joseph N France General Hospital. During our many hours spent together in the operating theatre I came to respect him as a committed practitioner of the art and science of Medicine. He saved many lives, gave many persons an opportunity to enjoy a better quality of life and brought new life into the world.

He served the Nation as an administrator in the capacities of Medical Superintendent at the Hospital and as Chief Medical Officer. At all times he demanded from his staff discipline, a commitment to excellence and a caring attitude in the delivery of patient care.

When he was elevated to the position of Governor –General he had already rendered yeoman service to our Nation. As Governor-General he served with distinction, dignity and humanity. He was universally loved and respected by people from all walks of life.

Our Land of Beauty has lost one of its most illustrious sons.
