Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 04, 2017 (SKNIS): The first group of men to be trained as mentors with the Men of Integrity Movement, also referred to as I’m MOI, registered at the launch of the programme on Sunday, August 3, at the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School in Molineux.  Men and women from the Molineux and Phillips communities turned out to be a part of the start of the initiative and listened keenly to its coordinator and facilitator, Dr. Neals Chitan, Crime Reduction Specialist.

The I’m MOI Movement targets males. The intention is to train men in communities around the federation to serve as mentors. There will be a launch in each community and each launch will be followed by 12 training sessions. Dr. Chitan describes these sessions as “high-impact, life-changing presentations designed and copyrighted to address the deep social issues that damage the leadership in men while retraining the mind to achieve phenomenal success in every aspect of their lives.”

The sessions for the Molineux and surrounding communities will begin on October 4 at the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School and will be held once a month.  Areas to be covered include respect, coping with hurt and grief, anger management, men and domestic violence, as well as the making and breaking of habits and addictions.

The Ministry of National Security is sponsoring the initiative and Dr. Chitan acknowledged the strong support of the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Osmond Petty.

Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, gave the I’m MOI Movement his fullest support.  He encouraged everyone to work towards building a nation that “we can all be proud of.”

“And simple little things we could start in our home. Encouraging our children, making sure they go to Sunday school where they learn certain values, basic for their progressive living. So all of you with children…at home not taking them church because you don’t go, not sending them to Sunday school, make a change now because these kinds of interventions could create better persons — the men and women of integrity who we want to build a better St. Kitts and Nevis,” Dr. Harris said.
