“The prime minister, in his capacity as the Minister of National Security, has always had a special interest in the police…and he has always expressed great support for the police and what they are doing,” Mr. Queeley said.

The commissioner was at the time addressing members of Division C of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force at a special meeting organized on the occasion of the visit by Prime Minister Harris to the Charlestown Police Station on Wednesday, May 23.

Commissioner Queeley pointed to the deep interest which Prime Minister Harris has shown for matters of law enforcement and for ensuring the requisite services are made available to assist the police in carrying out their duties.

The Police Commissioner also thanked the prime minister and the government of St. Kitts and Nevis for making the necessary investments in the security forces, including the opening of a new forensic laboratory on the compound of the Tabernacle Police Station, the historic introduction of extra duty overtime for the first time in the history of law enforcement, the engagement of the services of a full time psychologist in the person of Dr. Godwin to serve law enforcement officers, the abolition of preliminary enquiries and more.

Other officers in attendance at Wednesday’s meeting also expressed strong appreciation to Prime Minister Harris for his excellent service to law enforcement, including Inspector Alonzo Carty, who commended the National Security Minister on “his excellent work to better the lives of police officers.”

During the productive discussions with the officers on Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, who is also Minister of Finance, committed to increasing the transportation and displacement allowances to the police working on Nevis, and noted that the government is awaiting a report on a comprehensive review of police salaries.
