BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 15, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has said that the three year-old Team Unity Government continues to perform well for the people of the twin island Federation, despite being confronted with a bad inheritance from the bygone administration.

Addressing a ceremony on Thursday (June 14) where six residents were presented with keys to their brand new homes in Saddlers Village, Prime Minister Harris said one only has to look at the government’s stellar performance in the housing sector, where hundreds of citizens and residents have benefited from programmes and policies introduced by the Team Unity Administration.

“Notwithstanding the challenge of a bad inheritance, look how far we have come…performing and delivering hundreds of homes to date for the people in every area,” the prime minister stated emphatically.

The construction of the houses forms part of a $50 million loan provided by the Social Security Board to construct 300 homes across St. Kitts.

The honourable prime minister also reminded those in attendance that his Team Unity Government is doing more than just providing homes to the people through the NHC. He stated that as a result of the visionary leadership of the Federal Cabinet, the government has introduced a number of programmes including the Home Improvement Loan Programme, which provides financial assistance to persons in making much needed renovations and repairs to their homes.

Additionally, Prime Minister Harris said as a result of the prudent fiscal management of the country’s resources, “your administration came up with a programme targeting in the first instance the government workers.”

Under this programme, which is being administered by the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis, civil servants are able to access up to EC$300,000 to facilitate property ownership and house renovations.
