The Regional Law Revision Centre, based in Anguilla, is celebrating its ten-year anniversary with a special conference in Montserrat, held July 3-4 2018.

The Centre provides law revision and consolidation and professional printing services to dozens of jurisdictions in the Caribbean. It began with UK Department of International Development seed funding ten years ago and has achieved its ten-year milestone by providing first class professional services to many Governments in the region.

The Centre is supported by the four UK overseas territories of Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat and Turks and Caicos Islands. The Attorneys General of these territories make up the board of directors and all attended the conference.

The Centre has brought together 28 delegates and speakers from 13 jurisdictions. Anguilla, Antigua, BVI, TCI, Belize, St Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, USA, Canada, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, and Jamaica are all represented at the conference.

The Conference began with morning prayer, the National Anthem and National Song and an uplifting address by H.E. The Governor of Montserrat, Mr Andrew Pearce. Hon Attorney General of Montserrat, Sheree Jemmotte-Rodney and Hon Justice Iain Morley QC also spoke and welcomed delegates to the conference. Hon. Rhondalee Knowles OBE, Attorney General of TCI, chaired the opening day of the conference.

The conference is focusing on the challenges of law revision in small jurisdictions and the need to ensure laws remain as consolidated and revised as possible to permit the public to engage with, understand and comply with laws.

The steadfast manager of the Centre, Ms Yolande Dash said:

“We are delighted that after ten years of hard work, the Centre continues to be a success and provide first class law revision and consolidation services to the territories in the region. The Centre has employed many people over the years and has been steadfast to its home, Anguilla. We are particularly delighted to be celebrating ten years after the Centre was so badly damaged last September after the passing of Hurricane Irma. The Centre will continue to play an important, indeed, central, role in law revision in the Caribbean”

The resident regional director, the Hon John McKendrick QC, Attorney General said:

“It is important to begin our celebration of ten years of the Centre’s success by thanking Yolande Dash, the manager, for her incredible hard work and vision which has allowed the Centre to survive and thrive. I would also like to extend the Directors’ thanks to Genefa Fedee and Shernika Jno Baptiste who have all worked hard to make a difference in the Centre’s day to day success. The Centre continues to play an important role across the Caribbean and it has been one of the great pleasures during my time as AG to have helped develop the Centre’s activities. We are confident a six figure contract will soon be signed with a neighbouring jurisdiction, which will help to ensure the Centre’s future. I repeat my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all involved with the Centre and to the English Attorney General and the UK Foreign Office for funding the conference.”
