BASSETERRE (20TH July, 2018): The Dreamy Group in collaboration with Sweet and Savory Bistro hosted a Premier Cake Tasting Event on July 19, 2018. The event, held on the eve of Saint Kitts-Nevis Restaurant Week, was targeted to couples, wedding planners and DIY enthusiasts in the wedding market.
Celebrity cake designer, Miriam Charles, affectionately known as Mimi of Miami based Lux Cakery was featured alongside Stephanie Lakwani of Sweet and Savory Bistro.
The Minister of Tourism, Hon. Lindsay Grant addressed the gathering and highlighted Saint Kitts as an upcoming wedding destination.
“Destinations weddings are on the increase world-wide, as couples seek out picture-book beginnings to marriages,” Minister Grant said. “And, St. Kitts is well poised to deliver that perfect and spectacular wedding. Our restored plantation estates, pristine beaches, botanical gardens, forgotten sugar mills and lush rainforests, can provide picture perfect experiences.”
He thanked the Dreamy Group for organizing the event and for the collaboration in showcasing the possibilities that Saint Kitts offers in the wedding market. The Minister also congratulated Ms. Natalie John, the CEO of the Dreamy Group, on her nomination for Caribbean Offsite Wedding Planner of Year for the upcoming Caribbean Wedding Industry Awards, to be held in Jamaica in September 2018.
Ms. Natalie John, provided an overview of the upcoming ‘Say Yes’ Wedding Show which showcases the islands’ top vendors in the weddings and honeymoons industry. ‘Say Yes’ will also feature demonstrations including the recreation of a 24-carat gold tiered wedding cake by Mimi and Stephanie.
The top wedding trends for 2018/2019 will be presented by Ms. Natalie John- Certified Wedding Planner and Master Florist at the ‘Say Yes’ event.
Participants were exposed to information to guide choices regarding; cake decorations, tiers and layers.
The presenters – Mimi and Stephanie also spoke to trends in wedding cakes such as naked cakes, painted cakes and special groom surprise cakes. Participants sampled a broad range of cakes including gluten free and vegan options, along with ganache, frosting and fillings.
Finally, some participants opted to design sample cupcakes and wedding cakes under the guidance and supervision of Mimi and Stephanie.
