Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 26, 2018 (SKNIS): Director of the Department of Sports, Anthony Wiltshire, has reported that all is going well with activities for this year’s sports development camp, which is catering to scores of children from communities across St. Kitts from July 23 to 27, 2018.
During a visit to Warner Park on Wednesday, Director Wiltshire reminded that due to a number of factors that were previously reported, the annual camp has been scaled down. However, the quality of the instruction coupled with the enthusiasm of the facilitators and the children remain the same.
“The coaches are enthused with the children and their abilities. The children are excited [and] they are enjoying the activities that they have been doing in the various disciplines,” Mr. Wiltshire stated.
Lessons in tennis, volleyball and netball are being held at Warner Park. Golf instruction is at Frigate Bay, football at The Gardens and cricket at Conaree.
Lurean Craig, an avid tennis player, was at the tennis courts observing her three children Diamond, 11, Adanna, 9, and Steve, 8, during the camp. She said that she was grateful for the opportunity where they can advance their technique.
“I think it is a great learning experience. Through the summer they have something to do,” she said. “They also play tennis in school so this is a good opportunity to have them learn more about it.”
Director Wiltshire assured that “next year God’s willing, camp will be back to its original state and we will have much more to offer than we have for this year.”
