Tropical Storm Isaac Watch Statement 5am 12-Sept-2018

A tropical storm watch is still in effect for St. Kitts and
Nevis. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm or
developing tropical storm conditions pose a possible threat to the
specified area within 48 hours.

At 5 am ect or 0900z the centre of Tropical Storm Isaac was located
near latitude 14.5 north, longitude 53.5 west or about 610 miles eastsoutheast
of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Isaac is moving toward the west at 15 miles per hour. This general
motion is expected to continue through to the weekend.
Maximum sustained winds are decreased to 60 mph with higher
gusts. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next few days. On the
forecast track, Issac centre is forecast to move across the central
Lesser Antilles and into the eastern Caribbean Sea on Thursday.

Tropical storm force winds extend up to 105 miles from the centre.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb or 29.53 inches.
Based upon the latest position and analysis, Tropical Storm Isaac is a
little weaker. It is projected to pass a hundred miles to the south of
the Leeward Islands.

 

This means the zone of the strongest winds
should stay south of the Leeward Islands. However, rainbands
associated with Isaac could move across the islands to generate
cloudy skies with a high chance of showers and thunderstorms on
Thursday.

Rainfall amounts of up to an inch are possible with the passage of
Isaac. Seas are expected to begin deteriorating by late Wednesday; therefore
warnings for mariners and sea bathers will be issued today.
All residents should continue to monitor the passage of Isaac.

Repeating the 5:00 am ect position, 14.5 n, 53.5 w. Movement toward
the west near 15 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph.
The minimum central pressure is 1000mb or 29.53 inches.
The next advisory will be at 11am
