Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 12, 2018 (SKNIS): The government’s roof repair programme continues to positively impact the lives of persons whose roofs were damaged during the passage of category five Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Residents of Sandy Point are the most recent beneficiaries.

In an interview with a Sandy Point resident, John Thomas, he expressed his gratitude for the Government of National Unity.

“I want to thank the government for what they have done for me,” he said. “They took the galvanise off of my old ceiling as it was rotten. Now the government has put on a new roof, it is working very fine. Thank you very much for the help.”

Another resident said that he was happy about the government’s initiative.

“I want to say thanks to the government for the little assistance with the roof,” he said. “I wasn’t too sure about how we were going to make it with the little hurricane. I just want to say thanks again.”

Evet Wilkins-Rouse, another resident of Sandy Point, gave thanks to God for the Government of National Unity.

“I thank God for enabling the government to come and work on the house roofs,” she said. “I thank God for them and I thank God for Team Unity and I pray that they will continue with the new ideas that they have to go out and help everybody.”

Patricia Buchannan, also showed gratitude to the government and shared how her son was able to benefit from the programme.

“I want to thank the government for the work that they are doing because there are persons who can’t get their roof fixed and I’m glad to see that they can come around and assist,” she said. “My son got his roof fixed. He was struggling with it. When rain fell, it used to come in and wet the bed. He used to have to put a bucket between him to sleep. So I want to thank them very much for the kind work they are doing and I want to say keep it up.”

The government is providing the roofing materials and financing the labour costs to those affected through the Office of the Prime Minister with support and guidance from the Ministries of Social Development and Sustainable Development.
