Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 30, 2018 (SKNIS): Residents in Sandy Point applauded the efforts of the Team Unity Government’s Roof Repair Programme that continues to positively impact their lives. Residents of St. Kitts and Nevis received damages to their house roofs during the passage of two category five Hurricanes, namely Irma and Maria in 2017.
According to figures released by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), there were 1,114 reported cases of homeowners with damaged roofs to varying degrees throughout St. Kitts due to inclement weather.
“I just want to thank Team Unity for their splendid work that they have done for me in getting my roof repaired because, without them, my house would not have been this tremendous today,” said one grateful Sandy Point resident.
Another resident echoed similar sentiments and said, “I am thankful that the government gave me a roof because I was in need of it.”
The Sandy Pointers expressed their gratitude not only to the government but to their parliamentary representative, the Honourable Shawn Richards, who is the Deputy Prime Minister.
“I called the Honourable Shawn and he did reply and told me they will do it, so many thanks to the Team Unity Government for fixing my roof. For a long time I have been putting out pans to catch water all over, and the other night when there was a lot of rain I thanked God for sending Team Unity,” exclaimed one senior citizen.
The roof repair project began back in April 2018 and has seen an average of 40 roofs being repaired each week. Over 400 contractors have gained employment since on the project since it started.
