BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 15, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister)– Nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis, living at home and abroad, phoned in to the “Frank and Candid” programme on ZIZ Radio today (Thursday, November 15) to congratulate Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, who is this month celebrating 25 years of service to the people as a Parliamentarian.

Prime Minister Harris first contested elections on November 29, 1993, at which point he successfully became the people’s representative for Constituency #7 (Belle Vue to Ottley’s Village). In the next five general elections, Dr. Harris was handsomely re-elected as the Parliamentary Representative.

During Thursday’s programme, callers phoned in, one after the other, to extend best wishes to the Prime Minister and continued success in his future endeavours.

The first caller to the radio show said, “First, I want to congratulate my Prime Minister, Mr. Harris, for his 25 years of serving the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis [and] I would want to take some time out to recap some things that the Prime Minister has done for the Federation and [for which] I am grateful. [This includes] the HELP programme, fixing people’s roofs, and I’m feeling so good, Mr. Prime Minister, for the stop lights here in St. Kitts.”

Commenting on the community outreach of Prime Minister Harris, one caller said, “I’ve seen you sponsor basketball, domino competitions in your area, and you have sponsored quite a number of students in your area to the tune of over a quarter million dollars.”

Another caller commended Dr. Harris on his stellar record of service to the people, making special reference to the Prime Minister’s intervention that led to the mobilization of efforts to provide a brand-new home for Molineux residents, Martha O’Donoghue and her daughter.

In response, Prime Minister Harris said it is the feedback from real people like those who phoned in to the radio programme and those who greet him on the street that energizes him to go out and serve the people every day.

Dr. Harris said he is proud of his record of service over the last 25 years to the people of Constituency #7 – service that has touched the lives of citizens and residents from Belle Vue to Ottley’s.

“I feel satisfied that my legacy of service in the community is strong and that is why every election I have won [and] not in small ways. Thanks be to God! I’ve had one of the most impressive records of victories in any Constituency by any politician in the country, and that is coming from the good works, not just from the Help-a-Child Programme but also from the Inner City Basketball League and the Domino League, which is the longest surviving domino league in the country and in the Caribbean region,” Prime Minister Harris said, noting that the transformation of the communities that he continues to serve diligently is self-evident.

The Honourable Prime Minister’s appearance on “Frank and Candid” was one of the activities planned in observation of Dr. Harris’ 25 years of service as a Parliamentarian. The celebratory activities continue on Friday (November 16) with a special House Handing-over Ceremony at Molineux Extension, starting at 3:45pm, and the Prime Minister’s Legacy Walk on Saturday (November 17).
