Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 30, 2018 (SKNIS): Activities for Youth Month 2018 in St. Kitts climaxed on Friday (November 30) with a street march. Scores of children were led through the streets of Basseterre by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth, the Honourable Shawn Richards, drawing public attention to the promising young people.

During an interview on Wednesday (November 28), Minister Richards reflected on events that were a part of the calendar of activities, including the Island-Wide Bike Ride, 25 Most Remarkable Teens in St. Kitts and Nevis award, Student Art Exhibition, High Schools Choir Fest, and High Schools Chef Competition.

“We have had activities that cater to just about any young person here in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. That is the intention of Youth Month, to give young persons a forum. Whether it is a forum to speak, a forum for physical activity, or a forum for young persons to be able to network,” the deputy prime minister stated.

Hundreds of youth from St. Kitts and Nevis were positively engaged throughout the various events held in November. Minister Richards said that the feedback from stakeholders and the participating young people points to a successful Youth Month.

“Going forward, of course, we will take a look to see what we have done successfully, what we can improve upon and maybe add other items to Youth Month,” he stated.

The final activity takes place on December 06 when the Department of Youth Empowerment hosts its Youth Service Reception. The event will recognize the contributions of sponsors, partners and outstanding volunteers of the department.
