Six teams of two chefs from each public high school in St. Kitts participated in the intra cook-off on November 07. At the November 29 event, they were given two and a half hours to prepare and plate a main course and desert, as well as prepare a signature local drink. The judges had a keen eye for detail and a critical palate for taste.
Minister of Youth Empowerment, the Honourable Shawn Richards, congratulated the participants and encouraged them to continue enhancing their skills.
“I say congratulations to all the students. In a real way you see young people being involved and given the opportunity to showcase their skills,” said Minister Richards, adding that the competition provides an excellent training ground for preparing future professional chefs.
Minister Richards told the students that they are all winners and that they should be proud of themselves, as he himself is very proud of the work that they have showcased.
Saddlers Secondary School chefs were awarded the first-runner up position, while the Washington Archibald High School chefs came in second. Other participating schools were the Basseterre High, the Cayon High and the Charles E. Mills Secondary.
