Citizens and residents of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.   The members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have taken a solemn oath to uphold the law fairly and firmly, without fear or favour, to prevent crime, to pursue and bring to justice those who break the law, to keep the peace, as well as to protect, help and reassure residents and visitors. We have also vowed to be seen to do all this with integrity and impartiality. In this regard, we have worked assiduously throughout the year to maintain the peace and will continue to do so during our National Carnival. As such, I am taking this opportunity to speak to you to assure you that the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is committed to ensuring that Carnival 2018-2019 concludes on a high note.

We are hereby officially warning misguided individuals who have difficulty participating in Carnival events within the confines of the law to stay at home. They seem determined to create an unfavourable experience for the thousands who have come to revel in safe spaces as they have the right to do. Firstly, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force condemns all acts of violence and any attempts at disrupting the peace. Secondly, delinquent behaviour will not be tolerated. If you are not sure that you will be able to participate in events without becoming involved in an incident, again, you are advised to remain at home. We will spare no efforts in ensuring law and order prevails. Thirdly, acts of violence against law enforcement officers will not be condoned and any acts of violence against any individual, especially Police Officers, will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.

It is important to bear in mind also that ensuring Carnival activities are incident free is not only the job of the Police. Fighting crime is a shared responsibility between the Police and the community we serve. Everyone has a role to play. We need you to help us keep our Carnival safe by maintaining a watchful eye for anything suspicious. And so I am urging you to contact the Police to report any suspicious or criminal activity by calling our crime hotline at 707. Doing so might help to prevent a crime from being committed or save someone’s life.

Let me reassure you that we will be out in our numbers patrolling the streets and we will be there when you need us. We are here to work with you and the Carnival Committee to ensure that Carnival 2018-2019 is fun and memorable for all.
