BASSETERRE (19TH February 2019): Last week, the St. Kitts Tourism Authority attended the 12th annual Routes Americas conference, taking place this year at the Quebec City Convention Center in Quebec City, Canada, from February 12-14, 2019. The 3-day event included a full program of conference sessions discussing the latest issues and challenges facing aviation in the Americas region and provided a platform for St. Kitts to meet with key airline decision makers.

“Our participation in Routes Americas each year is a key component of the Federation of St. Kitts & Nevis’ airlift strategy to build out non-stop flights from select gateways in our source markets,” said the Hon. Mr. Lindsay F.P. Grant, Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce. “Air service is vital to the development and growth of our tourism sector, so our meetings at this event with current aviation partners and those who will play a significant role in our strategic airlift expansion helps us ensure the success of our ongoing route development.”

Representing St. Kitts at Routes Americas was Nick Menon, Chairman of the Board of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority; Racquel Brown, CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority; and Airlift Consultant Candice Kimmel, Founder and CEO of Adams Unlimited. Throughout the course of the event, the St. Kitts delegation held meetings with top executives from airlines currently providing service to St. Kitts as well as those with strong potential for new route development. These executives were each presented with the business case for serving the destination from select gateway airports.

“We were fortunate to have a number of robust discussions with airlines we are targeting for new or expanded service for peak winter season next year and beyond,” said Racquel Brown, CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority. “This year, St. Kitts has benefitted from expanded service from our partners Air Canada, Delta, United and American as well as new service from Sun Country so our presence at Routes Americas is helping us work to continue this momentum.”

Routes Americas moves to a new city every year to highlight the diverse aviation markets across the Americas. 2019 marks the first time the event has been held in Canada. This year, the Canadian market is experiencing a number of start-ups from ultra low cost carriers (ULCCs) that is diversifying the aviation industry in the country.
