Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 27, 2019 (SKNIS): Wednesday’s (February 27) edition of “Working for You” provided the public with vast knowledge of several opportunities offered by the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), which nationals were encouraged to capitalize on.

Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Tom Lee, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, William V.A. Hodge, appeared on the programme to engage the public on Taiwan’s cooperation with the Federation in Education through its scholarship programmes.

Presently, Taiwan offers two types of scholarships to nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis—the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) scholarships. There is also a post graduate four year course in medicine at I-Shou University in Taiwan. Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree in a related field to apply.

“We hope that our people, our young people in particular, will take advantage of all of these training that are being offered,” said the permanent secretary. “We hope that the public has been listening so that when we launch the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) courses that they would jump at the opportunity… and we hope that those who want to go on to do degrees would apply.”                 `

The programmes cover a variety of fields such as, business, management, agriculture, Mandarin Chinese, engineering, technology and nursing from a variety of universities.

Application for the Taiwanese Scholarships for ICDF and MOFA opened in January. The deadline for ICDF is March 15, while for MOFA it is March 31. Late applications will not be accepted.

Mr. Hodge expressed thanks to the Government and People of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for affording nationals the opportunity to excel.

“We really appreciate all the support and the help that we get from our Taiwanese brothers and sisters. We stand to benefit from our friendship with you and we want to thank you sincerely,” he said.
