We are currently listing and cataloging photographs from private collections.  In the collection that belonged to Canon George Walker we found this one probably taken in Antigua circa 1970.  In the center is Bishop Orland Lindsay.  He was the first person of Afro-Caribbean descent to become Bishop of Antigua.  St. Kitts falls in that diocese now known at the Diocese of the North Caribbean and Aruba.

Lindsay held the position from 1970 to 1996.  He was also Archbishop of the West Indies from 1986 to 1996 when he retired.

Orland Lindsay was born in Jamaica on 24 March 1926. During World War 2 he served in the RAF.  He completed his education at McGill University in Canada and was ordained priest in 1957. He served as an Anglican priest in Jamaica.  From 1968 he was the principal of the Church Teachers’ College at Mandeville, Jamaica until his ordination.

Incidentally, the first Bishop of Antigua was Daniel Gateward Davis of St. Kitts.  He served from 1842 to 1857.
