Ms. Euta Hodge cuts the ribbon to her brand new home.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, April 25, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – On Thursday, April 25, Ms. Euta Hodge, a well-deserving mother of ten children, was presented with the keys to her brand new, fully furnished home at Catholic Street, Molineux, while beaming with joy as she cut the ribbon.

“We are making the dream of Euta Hodge realized today. A significant development for her and her family who suffered more than any of us in the aftermath of the two category 5 hurricanes which came our way in September, 2017,” said Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Seven, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris.

Ms. Hodge was one of eleven persons listed on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA’s) Severe Damages Report for Hurricanes Irma and Maria. However, while the level of damage on the homes of the other ten households was listed as extensive, the residence of Ms. Hodge was the only one that was listed as “destroyed” and deemed “uninhabitable” by the NEMA report.

Under the heading ‘Recommendations’ of the NEMA report, it was suggested that a two-bedroom National Housing Corporation (NHC) house be presented to Ms. Hodge.

Prime Minister Harris said his compassionate and people-centered Team Unity Government answered the call and mobilized the necessary agencies to respond to the urgent needs of Ms. Hodge and her family.

“Today she can say thank God for the Team Unity Government because in her lifetime she will not remember any other period where there was a significant hurricane of a category 5 where the Government responded in the manner in which the Team Unity administration has responded in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria,” Dr. Harris said.

Prime Minister Harris praised the kind contributions of local companies S.L. Horsford & Co. Ltd. and TDC, both of which answered the call for closer public-private partnerships. Horsford donated the furniture (living room set, dining room set and bedroom set for 1 bedroom), while TDC donated the refrigerator and stove.
