Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 22, 2019 (DBSKN) — The Anglican Parish Church of St. George with St. Barnabas will hold a food festival on Saturday May 25 and proceeds will go towards repairs of the church hall, the Old Girls’ School, on Victoria Road in Basseterre.

According to Ms Kai Williams, People’s Warden and Chair of Fundraising Committee for the St. George with St. Barnabas Anglican Churches, the food festival which will be held at the Old Girls’ School that is now used as the church hall, will run from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.

“Our church hall is in need of some serious repairs and that is why we are having this event so that we can get some funds to repair it,” said Ms Williams when she received a monetary contribution from Ms Danienne Brin, Human Resources Manager at the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis on Church Street in Basseterre on Tuesday May 21.

Repairs to the church hall have been done before, but this time it will be a complete overhaul that will include repair of the roof and taking out some boards that are termite and woodlice-infested.

“We are thankful and grateful that Development Bank saw it fit they should make a donation towards our food festival which is in aid of our church hall repairs,” said Ms Williams. “It will go a long way because we are on a fundraising drive right now just to get that building up and running because we want to put in internet, AC and different stuff like that. So we have a huge undertaking – whatever donation is greatly appreciated and most welcomed.”

The food festival will have a wide array of food from different stalls that will offer international dishes from the different Caribbean islands and cuisine from other continents like Asia, and also a stall that will offer the national dish and a bar that will serve local soft drinks.

“We also have the Saturday lunches, so you can get a chicken, a fish, ribs, mutton, and then we have Saturday special – you can get goat water, conch, souse, tree mutton, and black pudding,” noted Ms Williams. “We also have a barbecue pit area where we will have barbeque pigtail, barbeque backs, barbeque ribs, and barbeque chicken leg quarters and wings, and we also we have our confectionary stall for those persons with sweet tooth.”

Entrance to the food festival is free, but food tickets are selling at $25 and the ticket will be exchanged for chits of various denominations that will be presented at the different stalls. Ms Williams added: “We want persons to not only just come and buy food and leave, but to come and stay and socialise and have some fun for the afternoon.”

In the meantime, Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Human Resources Manager, Ms Danienne Brin, said that the bank which was established by an Act of Parliament NO. 1 of 1981 and opened its doors to the public on May 22 of the same year, is celebrating its 38th anniversary and to usher in anniversary activities members of the Bank’s Board, Management and Staff worshipped at the St. George’s Anglican Church on Sunday May 19.

“The Old Girls’ School has a special place in the history of this country for the role it played in the past in the area of education, and the role it continues to play in the social life of our people,” explained Ms Danienne Brin. “The Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis is pleased to partner with the St. George with St. Barnabas Anglican Churches as they embark on this noble mission of giving the historic Old Girls’ School a new lease of life.”
