Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 07, 2019 (SKNIS): The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), on June 05, hosted its inaugural author’s forum as part of its book promotion initiative entitled “In Celebration of Books”, which pays tribute to books, authors, reading and writing.

Sonita Daniel, Director of Library Services (CFBC), stated that the book-promotion initiative “brings the curtain down on our Research Symposium based on the theme Research for Innovation and Sustainable Development.”

“Books play a vital role in relation to education, economics, cultural creation and freedom of expression. Books provide access to ideas and knowledge. It is my hope that the papers presented during this 2019 symposium will be published in the very near future, whether in printed or digital format. The knowledge shared should be acted upon and have far reaching impact beyond today and beyond the walls of this educational institution and help to create innovation and sustainable development in our country and beyond,” said Mrs. Daniel.

The forum, she said, highlighted books on the national level.

“We live in an era when there is limited reading. So today’s focus on authors represents an effort to foster the literary development of our society. It is my hope that this exercise begins to cut the road for greater reference to books, journal articles and research in order to better inform our national dialogue,” said Mrs. Daniel.

The director commended the four authors present at the event who have “committed their thoughts to paper and have published their works.”

Authors present included Dr. Leighton Naraine, Dr. Ricardo Neil, Stuart Laplace and Peter Adrien. Books written by the authors were on display at the forum.

Mrs. Daniel stated that the focus on books “is meant to inspire students, faculty, staff and the wider public to read more and put a literary lantern on the social and economic issues confronting the society.”
