Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 20, 2019 (SKNIS): International Development Director at the Starkey Foundation, Kirk Richards, said that the Ministry of Health along with the Rotary Club of St. Kitts has been very supportive of the foundation’s mission in providing hearing aids to those who can’t afford it.

During an interview conducted at the Solid Waste Management Corporation headquarters on June 17, Mr. Richards stated that the focus of the two day mission is to train the nurses that have been a part of the programme on the “new processes and procedures for providing hearing healthcare on the island.”

In this training, Mr. Richards says that they will be “identifying what a person’s ear looks like, and also training on our WFA (Wide Frequency Audibility) device on how to check patients for hearing loss without having an audiogram.”

Mr. Richards commended the Ministry of Health’s Permanent Secretary Dr. Delores Stapleton-Harris, as well as the Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws on being supportive of the Starkey Foundation.

“We have now had the privilege of working with the new Health Planner Mr. Sylvester Bell, [who] has been very instrumental in getting us to this point. We’ve worked with the P.S. as well as the CMO,” he said.

Starkey Hearing Foundation’s Global Advocacy initiative is to create access to hearing healthcare and make a difference for people in need around the world. It was created by William Austin in 1984 whose life work was built on the premise of “So the World May Hear.”
