DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS HOSTS SUCCESSFUL INDEPENDENCE 10 MILE ROAD RELAY

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 09, 2019 (SKNIS): The Sandy Point Primary School and Outer Limits Athletics Club based in Sandy Point were the winners in the respective categories that contested the Department of Sports 36th Independence 10 Mile Road Relay held on Sunday, September 01, 2019.

Eight primary schools participated. The students had a six-mile run from Cabbage Tree, Cayon, to the Independence Square in Basseterre. In the High School/Club segment, runners from four entities faced a 10-mile challenge stretching from Tabernacle to Independence Square.

ASPIRE Financial Literacy Day 2025 Set to Empower Youth Across Saint Kitts and Nevis

When the dust settled, it was announced that in the Primary Schools Category: the winner was the Sandy Point Primary School followed by the Dr. William Connor and Dieppe Bay Primary Schools in second and third place respectively. In the High School/Club Category: the winner was the Outer Limits Athletics Club, followed by the Charles E. Mills Secondary School in first place and Fast Twitch Track Club from Basseterre in second.

Director of the Department of Sports, Anthony Wiltshire, said that the event was successful as some 100 persons would have participated. He described the feedback as generally positive and encouraged all nationals and residents to participate in other Independence-related activities.

Among the more popular public Independence events are the Prime Minister’s Independence Lecture Series on September 12; the National Heroes Day Observance on September 16; and the Independence Day Parade on September 19. Entertainment events such as a Nevis National Heroes Concert on September 15; One: Independence Flag Festival on September 18; and Gospel Concert on September 22 are also scheduled.
