ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES
6:18 PM ECT FRI, SEP 20, 2019
THIS IS FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
JERRY STILL POSES A FLOODING RISK IN PARTS OF THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS
AT 500 PM AST (2100 UTC), THE CENTER OF HURRICANE JERRY WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 19.6 NORTH, LONGITUDE 62.0 WEST OR 136 MILES NORTHEAST OF ANGUILLA, 117 MILES NORTH OF BARBUDA AND 162 MILES NORTHEAST OF THE BVI. JERRY IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 18 MPH (30KM/H). ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF JERRY WILL MOVE NORTH OF THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS LATER THIS EVENING, PASS WELL NORTH OF PUERTO RICO ON SATURDAY, BE WELL EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE
SOUTHEASTERN BAHAMAS ON SUNDAY AND TURN NORTHWARD ON MONDAY.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS REMAIN NEAR 80 MPH (130 KM/H) WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME WEAKENING IS FORECAST OVERNIGHT, BUT JERRY COULD RE-STRENGTHEN EARLY NEXT WEEK.
HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 15 MILES (30 KM) FROM THE CENTER, AND TROPICAL-STORM-FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 90 MILES (150 KM).
THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 991 MB (29.27 INCHES).
BASED UPON THE LATEST POSITION AND ANALYSES, HURRICANE JERRY IS PASSING AT A SAFE DISTANCE OF OVER 100 MILES TO THE NORTH OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS; HOWEVER, CLOUDINESS, SHOWERS AND GUSTY WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SYSTEM COULD MOVE ACROSS THE LEEWARD ISLANDS LATER TONIGHT TO PRODUCE SOME SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS SOME OF WHICH COULD BE MODERATE TO HEAVY AT TIMES.
AS A PRECAUTION, MARINERS ARE ASKED TO STAY IN PORT AND AVOID THE BEACHES FOR THE NEXT 12 – 24 HOURS UNTIL JERRY PASSES TO THE NORTH OF THE AREA.
NO WATCHES OR WARNING ARE IN EFFECT FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS; HENCE, NO SPECIFIC ACTION IS REQUIRED OF RESIDENTS OTHER THAN TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF JERRY UNTIL IT CLEARS THE AREA.
THE NEXT ADVISORY WILL BE AT 11 PM ECT
