INDEPENDENCE CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES CONTINUE TO POUR IN FOR ST. KITTS AND NEVIS

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 20, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Congratulations continued to pour in today to the Government and people of the twin island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in recognition of the country’s 36th anniversary of Independence on September 19, 2019.

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, (Ret.) General Prayut Chan-o-cha extended best wishes to St. Kitts and Nevis in a congratulatory message to the Federation. Prime Minister Chan-o-cha stated, “I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm the Royal Thai Government’s good will and determination to collaborate with the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis both bilaterally and multilaterally for the mutual benefits and well-being of our two countries and people.”

In a letter to Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Mark Brantley, His Excellency Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus wrote, “Please accept my sincere congratulations on the occasion of the national day of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis – Independence Day.”

Foreign Minister Makei further noted, “I take this opportunity to reiterate interest of Belarus in the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Saint Kitts and Nevis, as well as fruitful collaboration in international forums.”

Her Excellency Tessy Ekpunobi, Honorary Consul of St. Kitts and Nevis in Nigeria congratulated St. Kitts and Nevis, and in doing so, reminded nationals of the importance of such an achievement.

She said, “Independence Day is the greatest, most significant day of history for any nation in the world. It is celebrated once in a year with much enthusiasm to commemorate the sacrifice of those who fought bravely to bring freedom for the nation. It is great occasion to celebrate the freedom fighters and their supreme contributions. Independence does not come free; it demands a great cost.”

Meanwhile, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, extended his best wishes and by extension that of the regional body to the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, Ambassador LaRocque stated that, “St. Kitts and Nevis has made significant progress in those 36 years and is justified in celebrating its achievements with pride. The theme of this anniversary, “Unify, Transform, Enrich: Uplifting Communities for Independence 36,” promotes the continuation of the collective will and actions of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis to further the country’s socio-economic development.”

Ambassador LaRocque also acknowledged and commended Prime Minister Harris for his “unwavering commitment and leadership that you demonstrated as Chairman of the Community during the first six months of this year at a challenging time for our Community.”

Several high-level dignitaries representing various allied nations were also on island to share in the celebratory activities for St. Kitts and Nevis’ 36th Independence anniversary.
