(EMU) – St. Kitts, October 31, 2019: High Schools in St Kitts and Nevis are the recipients of track shoes and hurdles from the Carib Breweries as part of its commitment to the development of sports and sponsor to the popular Giant Malt Relay Championships.
Chief Education Officer Mr Darryl Lloyd received 225 pairs of track shoes and 90 hurdles on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
SOUNDBITE “Sports can take you around the world. Sports is something that elevates you. It develops you as an individual.”
Referring to the gesture as a demonstration of goodwill and partnership, Mr Lloyd referred to the Breweries as a friend who has remained faithful to its commitment and called on students to use their newly gained sporting gear to heighten their performance and aim towards excellence as they seek to perform not only regionally but internationally.
Coordinator for the Malt Relay Championships from the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Timothy Morton was full of praise for the generosity of the Breweries.
SOUNDBITE: “We have track and field events and to my knowledge none of the schools have hurdles. The sponsors looked at the athletes participate and saw that some of them were barefooted and came to the rescue.”
According to Mr Morton each school has been given 25 pairs of track shoes and ten hurdles. He added that this would enhance the coaching sessions at schools.
Spokesperson for the St. Kitts Breweries Mr Kenrick Isaac stated that his company has a vision for the relay championships and for sporting success in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
SOUNDBITE: “2020 we want to make it the biggest and best ever. So it’s not too early to start appealing to schools, to athletes, ; when time comes to train go out and train because come the 26th of January nest year (2020) it’s going to be action at the Kim Collins Stadium.
Mr Isaac revealed that the company will be adding some new features to the event.
SOUNDBITE: “We are going to make it the best Championship that we’ve ever had over the past four years.”
Several outstanding athletes from the high schools were on hand with their coaches to receive the items from the Giant Malt Relay Championships Sponsors.
