Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 03, 2021 (SKNIS): Over 1300 persons have received the AstraZeneca/Oxford University vaccine against the deadly Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) since St. Kitts and Nevis implemented its vaccine rollout plan on February 22, 2021, as part of the Government’s National COVID-19 Vaccination Rollout and Awareness Campaign.

“From a turnout of seventy last Monday to over 340 plus persons today, we have vaccinated to date a total of 1355 persons,” said Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris during Tuesday’s (March 02) edition of ‘Leadership Matters’, a virtual forum on ZIZ TV. “I anticipate an even larger turn our as we expand the number of health centres delivering the vaccine jabs.”

Prime Minister Harris urged citizens and residents to be a part of the drive and get vaccinated. He noted that the more people get vaccinated the quicker the world recovers from the virus and return to a state of normalcy.

“I want to encourage everyone to get vaccinated. Vaccination programmes put us further along the path to recovery. Vaccination will allow more things to happen safely, more economic activity and eventually economic recovery,” said Dr. Harris.

Dr. Harris hailed the rollout of St. Kitts and Nevis’ vaccination programme as a success and expressed thanks to all who would have played a part in ensuring that the initiative was successful.

“The successful launch of our COVID-19 vaccination programme last Monday continues to dominate the news, increasingly so as our public education programme gains momentum,” he said. “Success has many faces and indeed persons from all walks of life and every strata of society from the head of state to the ordinary folks understand the urgency of us getting vaccinated.”

Covid-19 vaccination continues at the Newtown, Basseterre, Sandy Point and the Tabernacle Health Centers in St. Kitts and in Nevis, the Charlestown, Gingerland and the Combermere Health Centers.
