Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 12, 2021 (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis’ High Commission in Canada continues with its efforts to help the Federation in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. High Commissioner Her Excellency Sherry Tross keeps using the graces of her good office in sourcing equipment and other supplies to assist her country to be prepared and ready in the face of the deadly coronavirus that has ravaged the entire world.
The High Commission’s latest efforts will benefit healthcare and frontline workers in St. Kitts and Nevis with 8,400 face shields, which were donated by the GlobalMedic Group, a registered Canadian charity whose mandate is to save lives by providing short-term, rapid response in the wake of disasters, crises, both at home and abroad.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Aviation, the Honourable Mark Brantley, handed over the face shields to the Ministries of Health, and National Security at a brief but important ceremony on Monday, May 10, 2021, at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“As you know, we have been in the throes of this COVID-19 Pandemic that we have been fighting for some time. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been doing its part in trying to find partners who have been willing to donate to contribute to our efforts here in St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Minister Brantley. “Through the efforts of our High Commissioner in Canada, Her Excellency Sherry Tross, we have been able to get from GlobalMedic, an international group that engages in charitable donations, these face shields for our frontline workers… to better protect us from COVID-19.”
Minister Brantley reminded citizens and residents that the government continues to play its part to protect everyone.
“Let me just continue to emphasize that COVID-19 is not yet over, the Pandemic is not yet over and we have to continue to work hard to ensure that we keep the people of St. Kitts and Nevis safe,” he said.
Minister of Health, the Honourable Akilah Byron-Nisbett, accepted the donation on behalf of her ministry and thanked GlobalMedic Group for its “kind contribution”, as well as those who played a role in ensuring that the event was successful. She noted that the face shields will be used “within the ministry as we continue to combat COVID-19.”
