Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 13, 2021 (SKNIS): The Team Unity Cabinet of Ministers met on Monday, May 10, 2021, at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris. Several issues affecting the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis were deliberated on.

  • The National COVID-19 Task Force gave its weekly briefing to the Cabinet where the usual update on statistics with respect to infections, recoveries, and deaths locally, regionally, and internationally was given. The Chief Medical Officer advised the Cabinet on the status of the COVID-19 in the Federation and the need for the vaccination roll-out to continue apace. She also shared the new World Health Organization guidance document which will affect vaccination and information regarding variants.
  • The Director of the National Emergency Operations Center informed the Cabinet of a meeting that took place with various entities, which were doing business in the Federation with respect to COVID-19 related matters. Sporting fraternities that were requesting permission to host matches on the island were engaging the National COVID-19 Task Force, and discussions were ongoing to safely accommodate reasonable requests. The same holds true for entertainment events and functions.
  • The Commissioner of Police gave the statistics on crime and informed the Cabinet that most crimes were on the decrease with information sharing being helpful in improving the detection rate. The picture overall on crime was heartening.
