Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 04, 2021 (SKNIS): Travel and tourism are beginning to show positive signs around the world as vaccination rates in developed and developing countries continue to increase, and COVID-19 restrictions are rolled back.

Tessa Perkins, Country Coordinator in the St. Kitts Ministry of Tourism, said that she is encouraged by the growing trends.

“It’s looking different for every sector, every country,” she stated on ‘Working for You’ on June 2, 2021. “It’s happening, I think that is the first thing to mention. It’s looking hopeful for tourism specifically.”

Ms. Perkins said that the recovery of the sector was a major discussion point at a recent Destination Stewardship workshop. Officials reviewed the impact of COVID-19 on the tourism industry with emphasis on island nations and St. Kitts in particular.

The promotion of St. Kitts as a sustainable destination is likely to be an advantage for travellers eager to explore nature.

She said that as destination managers they are “looking at Eco-experiences as a way to not only preserve the environment but also to get people back into nature, get people excited about getting back outside and that’s been a huge trend during COVID especially because you have that open space, it’s peaceful …”

Ms. Perkins added that sustainability would remain an essential part of the strategic efforts, seizing on the growth trends before the COVID-19 pandemic.
