WTO Training Course on Trade and Gender

Basseterre, St. Kitts, (Monday, 09th August 2021) – The World Trade Organization in
collaboration with the Ministry of International Trade has undertaken a virtual WTO Training
Course on Trade and Gender which started August 9th and continues on the 12th and 13th August
2021.

The scope of the discussions includes:
a) Women’s economic empowerment is becoming a global trend.
b) Women’s economic potential. Women represent an economic force.
c) Development aspects of women’s economic empowerment – examples in the Caribbean
and St. Kitts and Nevis
d) Concepts of gender lens and their relevance to trade.
e) Trade policies and how to integrate gender into trade policies; WTO trade and gender
policies tools.
h) How trade impacts women and women entrepreneurs.
i) Trade costs, innovation building and scaling up;
j) Women trade and health; women trade and climate change
k) Gender standards and trade.
l) COVID-19 impact on St. Kitts and Nevis.
Participants of the training course were invitees from the co-operatives and the manufacturing sectors, non-
government entities, the private and public sectors, all of whom will benefit from the information-sharing
and interactive sessions offered by the World Trade Organization (WTO). The WTO has, since 2006,
aided in the fight against gender inequality and continues to be advocate of trade and gender.
