Basseterre: St. Kitts, Tuesday, August 31st, 2021: Minister of Education, Honourable Jonel Powell, admonished teachers to maximize on the opportunities for professional growth that the summer workshops will provide. The request, which was made on Monday, August 30th during the opening ceremony held at the Antioch Baptist Church, signaled the start of the 2021-2022 Academic Year.
“As you embark on your Summer Workshop, I expect that you will avail yourselves to the training that provides you with thecapacity and skill-set to deliver differentiated instruction. Differentiating your instruction in your classroom delivery will bring you closer in your determination not to leave any of your students behind. I implore teachers to embrace this opportunity to teach children in alignment with their needs,” expressed Minister Powell.
The Minister of Education reassured teachers of the ministry’s continued commitment to the teaching fraternity.
“The Ministry of Education continues to place its confidence in our teachers and administrators as they make many personal sacrifices in the process of educating, training, molding and inspiring those young impressionable minds committed to their charge. As Minister of Education, I place on record my utmostrespect for and admiration of teachers who day after day selflessly, creatively, cheerfully and courageously discharge this sacred responsibility entrusted to them,” expressed MinisterPowell.
Teachers were also reminded of the significant role they play in nation-building.
“Education as we know it is about people development andbuilding the capacity of our human resources. As a small island developing nation, our people are our greatest resource,” the Honourable Minister stated. “The nucleus of people’sdevelopment as it pertains to education is our children, the children of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. It has become the responsibility of the State to make provisions for ourchildren to receive a quality education and training that would prepare and equip our children for nation-building. This sacred responsibility is entrusted to our teachers.”
The Academic Year 2021-2022 was officially declared open by the Minister of Education on Monday, August 30th. Though teachers are expected to report to school from Monday,September 06th 2021, all students will officially report to school on Wednesday, September 08th. The Washington Archibald High School, the Basseterre High School and the Cotton Thomas Comprehensive School will continue to operate on a shift system.
