Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 27, 2021 (SKNIS): The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) has planned a week of activities to commemorate ‘Founders Week 2021’ based on the theme “Honoring the past, celebrating the present, creating a sustainable future” planned for the period September 26 – October 1, 2021. In an address to mark the beginning of the week of activities, Minister of Education the Hon. Jonel Powell highlighted the importance of the institution to national development and the contributions of various persons to the success of CFBC.

“On reflection, the establishment of a tertiary institution at that time would have brought doubts about enrolment, quality, accreditation and even community support. However, I am proud to say that, having sat in the hallowed classrooms at the College myself, I can attest to the fact that CFBC has made a huge difference in the lives of its graduates over these past 33 years and many of us have gone on to pursue very successful careers and are making significant contributions here in the Federation and around the world,” said Minister Powell.

Established in 1988, the then College of Further Education was mandated to consolidate and augment the opportunities for tertiary level education in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. In 1998 the name of the College was changed from the College of Further Education to the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College in honour of Clarence Fitzroy Bryant, Educator. Minister Powell commended the administration and staff for a job well done in assuring the success of the institution while committing further support.

“I also take this moment to recognize the sterling contribution made by the College’s principals and presidents, administrators, faculty and support staff for their hard work and dedication in providing our students with quality education so that they can meet the demands of the world economy. We know that teaching is hard work as we challenge our youth to broaden their minds and strengthen their characters. As Minister of Education, I fully appreciate the efforts of the faculty who day in, and day out, are in the classroom giving of their intellect and energy to our nation’s youth. Please be assured of my continued support,” said Minister Powell.

The celebratory activities for the week include worship at the Wesley Methodist Church, Basseterre, which took place on Sunday, September 26, 2021, and an official Walking Tour of the CFBC’s campuses on September 27th. A major highlight in the week of activities will be the Memorial Lecture which will focus on the topic “Diversification in Education: A Pathway to National Development” by Dr. Tamu Petra Browne on September 28. It will be live-streamed.
