BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, October 18, 2021 (MMS-SKN)
 — Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven (Bellevue to Ottley’s), Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, is thanking his constituents for having kept the constituency going strong since November 1993 when he was first elected to parliament.

“I am happy all of you in your own ways have been there, have done a tremendous job and have kept the constituency going strong so that in 2020, we delivered one of the strongest victories that we have had over last 28 years in the seven elections that we have contested,” said Dr Harris, who is also the Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, and the National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) which is one of the three political parties in the ruling Team Unity Administration.

Dr Harris make the remarks on Saturday October 16 when he addressed the Peoples Labour Party Constituency Number Seven Branch, at a meeting which was held in Bourryeau, in his capacity as the Area Parliamentary Representative. He thanked all of them for being there from the very beginning of the political engagement and for still continuing to be there.

“My job is to serve you and to serve the country to the best of my ability and I shall continue to do so,” assured Dr Harris. “Our job is to prepare the party, and enhance the national strategy of the Peoples Labour Party. And with your help and your discipline we can do it.”

The Prime Minister reminded them that the Peoples Labour Party showed its strength as the newest political party when persons said they couldn’t do it, they could not impact – they could not win. He observed: “We showed them yes we can. We did it in 2015, we did it again in 2020 and we shall deliver again. We are more united than any, and we in Unity have the best leadership at this particular time to take our country to the stronger and safer future.”

The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the Peoples Labour Party Constituency Number Seven Branch, Mr Lenworth Harris. It was attended by members of the National Executive including National Chairman Mr Warren Thompson, National Secretary Ms Myrtilla Williams, and National Treasurer Mr Rawle Mars.

Others were National Women Representative Mrs Sonia Henry, National Youth Representative Mr Jeremiah Locker, Deputy National Treasurer Mrs Patrice Ofre, National Director of Communications Mr Craig Tuckett, and Founding Member Mr William Phillip.

According to Dr Harris, the Peoples Labour Party has membership in every constituency on St. Kitts, and they continue to work, to strengthen Team Unity everywhere. He observed that leading up to the 2020 general elections the opposition was saying that Team Unity, which he is the leader, was going to be a one-term government. They however won a second term with an increased margin.

“Now they are afraid of a third term for Team Unity,” remarked the Honourable Prime Minister. “You see how far we have come? We couldn’t do it (they said), and when we did it they said ‘well it was a fluke so it is one term’, and now they are bawling whether or not there will be a third term for Team Unity. Tell them that is left to the people of the country.”

The Prime Minister said that he will not engage them as right now the country needs his focused attention. He added that right now the people need competent hands and capable people who are willing to do the work that will take the country forward. It is not a time for partisan bickering when the country faces a global threat in Covid-19.

“For me I will not answer them yet is because right now I am focused on doing what must be done to deliver the country out of the pandemic and to deliver the stronger and safer future,” said Dr Harris. “The underminers can’t call me and give me notes about how to run the government. I have been guided by our vision, and I run the country with my colleagues with blessings, the advice, and the wisdom that God have given to me. Tell them the country is running good, and Team Unity is here to stay.”

He asked them to stay focused and not allow the distraction to get to them. In appealing to them to stay focused, he noted that there will be good times and bad and rough times, but in all those they still need a calm head, and they should not take on what the opposition says.

“The government is not about show – the government is about finding able, capable citizens and residents who can go the long haul,” said the Honourable Prime Minister. “The government is about leadership that matters – leadership that will go beyond the call of duty.”
