BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, December 02, 2021 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris has expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Parliamentarians on both sides of the House who used Wednesday’s (December 01) Sitting of the National Assembly to extend their congratulations to the Federation’s third Prime Minister on his 28th anniversary as the beloved representative for St. Christopher Seven (Belle Vue to Ottley’s).

Prime Minister Harris was first elected on November 29, 1993 and went on to win every general election held in St. Kitts and Nevis since then—1995, 2000, 2004, 2010, 2015 and 2020.

Dr. Harris was commended by all Members present on the Government side of the floor, including Member for St. Christopher 8, Honourable Eugene Hamilton; Member for St. Christopher 5, the Honourable Shawn Richards; Member for St. Christopher 3, the Honourable Akilah Byron-Nisbett, and Member for Nevis 9, the Honourable Mark Brantley, as well as by the Leader of the Opposition, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas.

“I want to say thank you to all of my colleagues for their expressions of good will and support in recognition of my 28 years of service to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis as a Member of the Parliament,” Dr. Harris said in response to the glowing tributes.

Prime Minister Harris has served in almost all ministries of government, including in education, social security, finance, foreign affairs and land and housing before being chosen by a coalition of Opposition parties to lead the Team Unity movement.

“It has been a long journey and I have learnt much,” Dr. Harris said. “I want to give God thanks, for through it all He has stood with me and guided me. I want to thank the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, for ultimately the politics is about the people, and the people of St. Kitts and Nevis have stood grounded with me throughout my 28 years of service. It is with special delight that I must also commend my people from St. Christopher Seven who have been loyal, steadfast and overwhelming in their support to me as their Parliamentary Representative.”

Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris led the Team Unity coalition to two successive general elections and became prime minister on both occasions. An outstanding list of accomplishments at both the constituency and country levels mark Prime Minister Harris’ tenure so far.
