Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 22, 2021 (SKNIS): The completion of the two-storey, multi-structure National Security and Judicial Complex in Sandy Point represents a significant moment for the community and is expected to boost community development, law enforcement and police morale.
Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for St. Christopher #5, the Honourable Shawn Richards, said that the new edifice provides a permanent home for law enforcement and also houses officials from the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services; and Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department. An independent area is also designated to house the Magistrate Court for District B. The building was opened on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, during an official ceremony.
“This facility has been long in coming but it has certainly been worth the wait,” Honourable Richards emphasized, after recounting the long history of substandard accommodations that existed for police and fire officers assigned to the area. “Today’s opening ceremony is another action that demonstrates to our law enforcement officials and the community that this government is serious beyond the talk about community development, law enforcement and police morale.”
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the contractor, Skeetes and Associates, for doing an excellent job in constructing the edifice. He added that he was proud that skilled and unskilled construction workers were able to participate in the building process.
“This is another reason why I assert that the completion of this Sandy Point Police Station is a community partnership and we must all ensure the overall upkeep and longevity of the police station.
Deputy Prime Minister Richards added that new housing and commercial spaces will soon be coming to the town of Sandy Point and said the new National Security and Judicial Complex will help to further the development of the area by providing modern services.
