Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 21, 2022 (SKNIS):  Cabinet Ministers in the Federal Government of St. Kitts and Nevis paid tribute to the late Ambassador and former Premier of Nevis, His Excellency Vance Winkworth Amory, as his body lies in state at Government Headquarters, Church Street, Basseterre.

“We shall all miss him. His smile, calm personality, and his tempered words. And I shall miss his wise counsel,” said the Honourable Shawn Richards, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Infrastructure et al. “Today we honour a father, husband, brother, uncle, son, cousin, and friend to many.  Today we formally begin to say, though with a swollen heart, farewell to a committed servant of Nevis and St. Kitts.  It would not be cliché to say, Vance Amory left us too soon. But let his sudden departure be a lesson for all of us.”

The Honourable Akilah Byron Nisbett, Minister of Health et al. said that she benefited from the time that she served with the late Ambassador in Cabinet.

“Ambassador Amory was more than just a colleague. He was an advisor, a cheerleader, a confidant and someone who was always ready and willing to provide good counsel. He took me under his wings and shared as much as he could about life in politics. He was always there. His wise counsel will certainly be missed but one thing for certain he ran his race and finished strong,” said Minister Byron-Nisbett. “He left a legacy that many can emulate. My deepest condolences to his dear wife, children, family and the Federation as a whole. He will certainly be missed. May he rest in eternal peace.”

Attorney-General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, the Honourable Vincent Byron Jr. shared similar sentiments.

“Vance has been a friend and confidant for many years. We played sports together and we all looked up to him as an outstanding opening batsman in cricket in St. Kitts and Nevis and across the region. Vance was always dignified, humble and did an excellent job of leading the people of Nevis, as well as his contributions to governance in St. Kitts and Nevis,” said the Minister Byron Jr. “He will be sorely missed and we wish his wife, daughters and extended family all the best going forward, that they be strengthened in the knowledge that he is going to a better place and that they should be comforted in his very outstanding contributions to St. Kitts and Nevis, the life that he lived, a life of public service, public upliftment, and we all say that we hope that he rests in eternal peace,” he added.

Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris led his Cabinet colleagues and other Members of Parliament at the Military Reception for the body of former Premier of Nevis, Ambassador Vance Winkworth Amory, at the RLB International Airport on April 20.

The body of His Excellency Amory currently lies in state on the second floor at Government Headquarters, where the National Assembly Chambers is located. Members of the public were able to view the body from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21. Viewing continues from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

The body of the late former Premier of Nevis and Ambassador, His Excellency Vance Amory, will then be transported over to Nevis, where he was born.
