Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 27, 2023 (SKNIS): The deadline to submit entries for the Independence 40 Theme Competition is fast approaching, and nationals and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis are strongly encouraged to get involved before the competition ends at midnight on Sunday, April 30.
The theme must capture the essence of the country’s 40-year history of independence as well as its current realities and standard for a shared future. Entries for the theme competition must be no more than six to eight words and should be memorable.
On Wednesday’s (June 26) edition of the radio and television programme InFocus, Viera Galloway, Co-chair of the Independence Planning Committee, said that the virtual competition has been very successful to date, with more than 150 submissions.
“We are still encouraging individuals to make their submissions,” Ms. Galloway said. “From what we have seen so far, I think that we have a lot of things to be proud of. … It’s been a well-engaged process, and we are pleased so far, and I want to encourage everyone to keep the momentum going as it relates to the theme competition.”
The winner of the Independence Theme Competition will receive a cash prize of $1,500.00. Co-chair of the Independence Planning Committee and Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Marcus Natta, added that there are also other perks that the winner will enjoy.
“We definitely will be incorporating whomever the winner of the theme is into some of the Independence activities. Last year, we started that process where the person who won the theme competition hosted the Prime Minister’s Independence Lecture Series in September, and so there is a myriad of opportunities,” Dr. Natta indicated.
Submissions must be emailed to independenceskn@gmail.com.
