PRIME MINISTER DREW ENGAGES IN BILATERALS AHEAD OF CARICOM HEADS MEETING

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, 3rd July 2023 (PMO) – The Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis jump-started his engagements ahead of the official start of the 45th Regular Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Today, the Honourable Prime Minister held bilateral talks with Her Excellency Karen Tan, Ambassador of Singapore to CARICOM. The conversation encompassed the common interests of both states and the desire to deepen and strengthen the existing relationship.

In addition, Prime Minister Drew engaged the Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency Yukata Matsubara. Ambassador Matsubara used the opportunity to update the Honourable Prime Minister on the ongoing implications of the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster that occurred over 12 years ago.

During both engagements, the Honourable Prime Minister took the time to commit to deepening and strengthening the respective diplomatic relationships.  In addition, he was able to articulate the thrust of the Government to propel Saint Kitts and Nevis into becoming the first Sustainable Island State within the region.  By doing this, he emphasized the necessity of partnerships and cooperation to achieve the tenets of energy transition, digital transformation, water management, and food security.

The Opening Ceremony of the 45th Regular Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of the CARICOM is expected to be at 4:30 pm today (Monday, July 3, 2023).
