RESOLUTION OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
OF SAINT CHRISTOPHER AND NEVIS APPROVING
RECOMMENDATIONS OF SALARIES REVIEW COMMISSION

WHEREAS the Salaries Review Commission was established pursuant to the Salaries Review Commission Act Cap. 22.14 to review the salaries and other conditions of service of the Governor-General, Members of the National Assembly, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Prime Minister, Ministers of Government, Attorney General and the Leader of the Opposition (“Senior Parliamentary Officials”) every three years, and to make recommendations to the Government accordingly;

AND WHEREAS the Salaries Review Commission prepared a report dated September 30, 2019 in which certain recommendations were made for adjustments of salaries and other conditions of service for Senior Parliamentary Officials based on thorough consultative process of analysis, economic considerations, and comparisons with other jurisdictions;

AND WHEREAS the last increase in salaries and other conditions of service for Senior Parliamentary Officials occurred in 2005;

AND WHEREAS on the contrary, since 2005, salaries for public servants increased by 7.5% in 2008; 4% in 2014; 3% in 2015; 3% in 2016; 10% in 2022 and 8% in 2024, being an effective total rate of increase of 41%;

AND WHEREAS there is now an anomaly, in that public servants at the salary scales of K44 to K47 receive salaries of up to 24% more than Ministers of Government;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the National Assembly of Saint Christopher and Nevis that the National Assembly accepts the recommendations of the Salaries Review Commission with respect to salaries and other conditions of service for Senior Parliamentary Officials, with effect from March 1, 2024.
