BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 13, 2024 (SKNIS): As Tropical Storm Ernesto moves further away from St. Kitts and Nevis, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) announced that the tropical storm warning for the Federation has been discontinued as of 8:00 PM tonight. While this marks a significant step towards returning to normalcy, NEMA strongly emphasises the continued importance of vigilance and safety.

Although the immediate threat from Tropical Storm Ernesto has passed, residual weather conditions may still pose risks, including localised flooding, gusty winds, and unstable surfaces. Residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly when venturing outdoors or travelling on roads that may still have debris or standing water.

NEMA also reminds the public that while the tropical storm warning has been lifted, it is crucial to stay informed and prepared for any unexpected changes in weather. Continue monitoring official channels, including NEMA, SKNIS, and ZIZ Facebook pages, as well as other local news platforms for any further advisories or information.

The National Disaster Coordinator, Abdias Samuel, stressed that the safety of residents remains top priority, and thanked everyone for their cooperation and responsiveness during this period.

NEMA will continue to provide updates as necessary. Please prioritise safety and remain vigilant.
