Manhattan, New York, September 22, 2024 (SKNIS): Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, engaged in a productive bilateral meeting with Constantinos Kombos, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, at the United Nations Headquarters on Sunday, 22 September 2024.
The discussions focused on deepening collaboration between the two countries, with particular emphasis on key areas of mutual interest at both the regional and international levels.
Senior Minister Dr. Douglas spoke on the importance of strengthening ties with the European Union (EU).
“St. Kitts and Nevis is committed to advancing our shared priorities within the CARIFORUM-EU and CELAC-EU frameworks. By enhancing our cooperation, we can create new opportunities for growth and development for both our nations,” said Dr. Douglas.
Minister Kombos emphasised the potential for greater cooperation across sectors.
“The relationship between Cyprus and St. Kitts and Nevis holds great promise, particularly in trade, tourism, and the blue economy. Our mutual efforts will undoubtedly create avenues for economic prosperity and strengthen our international partnerships,” Minister Kombos remarked.
Additionally, climate cooperation was a central theme in the talks. The ministers explored potential collaboration on climate-related initiatives, focusing on capacity building, training, and education. They underscored the importance of these efforts in enhancing the resilience and sustainability of both nations.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to building closer bilateral relations and fostering partnerships that support economic growth, environmental stewardship, and educational development.
